Hello Volunteers!

For our fourth season now, Save the Manatee Club is partnering with Blue Spring State Park, Sea to Shore Alliance, and Volusia County on the Blue Spring Manatee Observer Volunteer Program.

The goal of the program is to have a pool of volunteers who can help at Blue Spring State Park in Orange City between the months of April-November (“swim season”) to help prevent manatee harassment and to educate visitors about proper behavior around manatees.

A mandatory training session is scheduled at Blue Spring where volunteers can learn more about the program and the requirements. A kayak training session will be offered the same day for those volunteers who are interested in the kayak portion of the program.

Orientation Session: Saturday, March 9, 2019, 9:00 a.m.

The orientation will take place at Blue Spring State Park at the pavilions adjacent to the lower parking lot. The park entry fee will be waived. Volunteers who want to be part of the program will need to attend this orientation session.

Cora Berchem, the Club’s Multimedia Specialist, is Save the Manatee Club’s representative for the program, so please let her know if you are interested in attending the above training session, or if you have any questions about the program.  You can reach Cora at cberchem@savethemanatee.org.

Thank you all!

For the manatees,
Diana Ngai
